Parent/Carers asked us for the following initiatives in school.

You wanted a Book Shop that sells affordable books for children.

We did

We set up a shop selling children’s fiction and non-fiction on a regular basis before and after school. Quality books cost only 50p or £1. The Book Shop is proving very popular and successful. Children and parents are encouraged to request their favourite authors/titles which we are usually able to source at a very affordable price. Since May 2013 we have sold nearly 4,000 books!!

The Book Shop is thriving and children are reading more at home for pleasure. We have noticed a significant group of boys in Yr4 and 5 who are now getting very excited about reading ‘Beast Quest’ and Wimpy Kid’ books. As parents are choosing books with their children it is creating a positive family reading climate at home.

You wanted a Stationery Shop that sells pens, paper etc.

We did

We set up a Stationery Shop in April 2014. Lots of children and parents/carers have been purchasing cut price writing and drawing supplies which are sold before and after school on a regular basis. Children are enjoying writing and drawing at home and often bring in work to show teachers.

You wanted fun and relevant home learning activities to do with your children.

We did

As well as the well-established reading books that children take home and other learning tasks sent home by teachers, we now have two excellent on line programs that children can work on in school and at home - Accelerated Reader and My Maths. The children can also post their personal writing and other comments on the school Blog. All links to these sites can be found on our website.
